Jamaicans have the opportunity to join the global green push called ‘Earth Hour’, an event created to encourage persons to “switch off” their lights and take an hour to do something positive for the planet.

Whether its planting trees, cleaning up the beach, cooking dinner with sustainable ingredients, or attending an Earth Hour event for Jamaica, doing your part for the planet is always a good thing.

The Earth Hour JA is an acoustic concert. This is led by the team at the ESIROM Foundation and Jamaicans For Music and this year, its second in-person stage since COVID, will again be held at Hope Gardens, Palm Drive, from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23. Feature performers for the 2024 concert are Etana, Alexx A Game, Iotosh, Alaine and Warrior King.

“Earth Hour is the single, largest, symbolic mass participation event in the world, that was born out of a hope to mobilise individuals to take action on climate change. Every year as part of the WWF’s Earth Hour journey, the ESIROM Foundation team joins in on the efforts to mobilise people around the world to ‘Give an Hour for Earth’ as part of efforts to create presence and awareness,” commented Alex Morrissey, director of ESIROM Foundation and organiser of the Earth Hour JA acoustic concert.

As a commitment to sustainability efforts, the ticketing system again this year will be digitalised, #BYO – bring your own (cups, utensils, bags, chairs) are encouraged, and only reusable or biodegradable materials will be used for the layout and decor.

“The more people are aware of the issues of climate change, sustainability, and good practices, the greater the chance we have of people making an impact change on this journey. To add to this, patrons who take Uber to Earth Hour will get US$6 off their ride to encourage carpooling, ” shared Khalia Hall, sustainability manager at ESIROM Foundation, 2021 Miss Jamaica World and organiser of the Earth Hour JA acoustic concert.
